Manchester United’s hunt for a game-changing striker has taken a dramatic turn, with the agent of a top target confirming that discussions are already underway for a sensational summer transfer.
Ruben Amorim’s side, desperate to bolster their attacking options after a lackluster 2024-25 season, have been handed a major boost as the player’s representative hinted at a willingness to join the Red Devils in what could be one of the window’s standout deals.
Sources close to the club suggest that Victor Osimhen, the explosive Nigerian striker currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, is the man in question.
The 26-year-old, who fired Napoli to the Serie A title in 2022-23, has been a long-term target for United, and his agent, Roberto Calenda, has now fanned the flames of speculation.
“There’s concrete interest from a big Premier League club, and we’ve been in contact for a while,” Calenda told Teamtalk. “Victor wants to compete at the highest level, and this summer is the right time for a move. Talks are progressing.”
Osimhen’s scintillating form in Turkey—where he’s notched 31 goal contributions in 31 appearances this season—has reignited interest from Europe’s elite.
With his Napoli exit all but certain, United have emerged as frontrunners, despite competition from Juventus, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain.
The agent’s comments align with Teamtalk’s earlier revelation that Amorim has made Osimhen his “No. 1 striker target,” a priority as Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee face uncertain futures at Old Trafford.
United’s attacking woes have been stark this season, with just 37 goals in 31 Premier League matches as of April 7, 2025. Amorim, who favors a 3-4-3 system, sees Osimhen’s pace, power, and clinical finishing as the perfect fit to transform his side into contenders.
“We need big players who can make the difference,” Amorim said recently, a statement Calenda echoed: “Victor’s ready to explode at a club with United’s ambition. The project matters to him.”
The financials, though, could complicate matters. Osimhen’s release clause for clubs outside Italy stands at €75m (£63.5m, $82.5m), but Napoli might demand more given his form.
United’s budget hinges on offloading players like Hojlund or Zirkzee, with Juventus reportedly “pushing harder than ever” to hijack the deal using their ties to Calenda. Chelsea, meanwhile, are focused on RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko but could pivot to Osimhen if their top target slips away.
Fans on X have been buzzing about the potential move, with one user posting, “Osimhen to United would be unreal—exactly what Amorim needs to turn this season around.” Another cautioned, “Juventus always sneak in late—don’t count them out.”
For now, United hold pole position, and with Calenda confirming early talks, the summer of 2025 could see Old Trafford welcome an explosive new star to ignite their revival.
