Michael Carrick says that Lisandro Martinez is unfit to face Everton with Leny Yoro taking his place in defence.
United are seeking victory against Everton as they push for a place in the Champions League but they will be without the tenacious Argentine defender who has been in fine form recently.
“Yeah, unfortunately he just picked up something during the week,” said Carrick. “It doesn’t seem too bad at all, but we’re just kind of working through that at the moment, so he’s not available tonight.
“He’s obviously done well Licha, for us, and it’s disappointing. But Leny came in and did particularly well at West Ham so Leny comes in and we’ll try and move forward.”
Martinez joins Matthijs de Ligt, Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu and Mason Mount on the injury list, ahead of Sunday’s Old Trafford clash with Crystal Palace.
Licha has started every one of the last nine Premier League matches, since the Boxing Day victory over Newcastle United at Old Trafford, when he captained the side.
Otherwise there are no surprises to the side which is the same going forward as it was against West Ham.
Benjamin Sesko will have to wait for his chance again from the bench as Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Bruno Fernandes start in attack.
The 13-day break had given hope before the Everton clash had given hope that midfielder Mason Mount might be ready after an unspecified knock but he too remains out.
He has not featured since the derby win over City and the manager said on Friday: “We have been patient with him.
“We don’t want to push anything. He’s an important part of the group, and we want him back and fit, and he’ll have a big impact for us. So he’s getting closer.”
Carrick also said De Ligt was a “little bit behind” Mount in his recovery from a back problem. While Dorgu remains sidelined by a hamstring injury sustained in the win over Arsenal.
