Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has suggested Amad Diallo could play again this season.
Amad sustained an ankle injury in training four weeks ago that Amorim said at the time would keep him sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.
But speaking ahead of the trip to Arsenal on Saturday, Amorim suggested there was now some hope that the 22-year-old could feature again before the season is out, although he stressed the timescale was still tight.
"Even Amad, we will see in the end of the last month," Amorim said. "I don’t want to say anything but I have the hope to have Amad before the end of the season. But it’s the end of the season, so it’s just a hope, not more than that."
Amad has been one of United’s best players this season, contributing nine goals and seven assists in all competitions, and his return would be a significant boost to Amorim at a time when his attacking options remain limited.
United confirmed this week that Harry Maguire is back in training after a calf problem and could be involved at the Emirates, but Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo are still some way from returning from their respective injuries, with the timescale on their comebacks remaining unclear.
Victor Lindelof is also back in training after a groin issue and could be in contention, but Jonny Evans is still absent with a knock and isn’t expected to return until after the international break at the end of the month.
Amorim confirmed that Tyrell Malacia has suffered a setback in his recovery from a long-term knee injury, with the left-back now expected to be out until May at the earliest.
United are also sweating on the fitness of Joshua Zirkzee, who missed Thursday’s Europa League draw at Real Sociedad with a minor issue and will be assessed ahead of the trip to Arsenal.
