Casemiro has made it clear that he intends to see out his contract at Manchester United, despite limited game time under Ruben Amorim.
The Brazilian midfielder, who joined United in 2022 on a four-year deal following a £60 million move from Real Madrid, enjoyed an impressive first season at Old Trafford but has since struggled for form and minutes.
After being an unused substitute for five consecutive Premier League games, Casemiro was handed a rare start against Tottenham on Sunday due to United’s injury crisis.
The club had attempted to offload him in January, engaging multiple agents to find potential suitors, but he ultimately remained at Old Trafford.
With 16 months left on his contract, Casemiro has now stated his desire to stay while also expressing his frustration over his lack of playing time.
“I have to keep working hard with respect and professionalism,” he told AS.“Of course, I want to play more—every player does. I want to help the club during this difficult time.”
Despite his reduced role, the five-time Champions League winner remains committed to the club: “I have a year and a half left on my contract, and I’d like to fulfill it here in Manchester.”
Casemiro also emphasized his happiness off the pitch, citing his family’s adaptation to life in England and his gratitude towards United’s fans.
“I’m comfortable here, and so is my family. We’ve adapted, we speak English, and I’m very grateful to the fans and the club.”
However, he didn’t hide his disappointment over his current situation at the club: “Am I happy at the club? Yes. Am I happy sitting on the bench? Of course not. That’s another matter.”
Casemiro will be 34 by the time his contract expires, and whether he can force his way back into Amorim’s plans remains to be seen.
