Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage left supporters divided, with emotions ranging from frustration to cautious optimism.
The Premier League clash saw United go ahead through a Rodrigo Muniz own goal, only for substitute Emile Smith Rowe to equalise for the hosts.
A missed penalty from captain Bruno Fernandes proved the turning point, and became a lightning rod for fan reaction online.
Many supporters voiced disappointment at United’s failure to convert early dominance into victory.
On X, one fan wrote: “United started really well and were unlucky not to score from those first three chances.” Another lamented Fernandes’ penalty miss, calling it a “whiff on a gift of a penalty.”
A common theme emerged: United should have killed the game off. As one supporter summed up, “United really should’ve put this game to bed by the time of Fernandes’ penalty.”
Despite the frustration, there was recognition of positive signs in Rúben Amorim’s developing side. United registered 14 shots to Fulham’s 11, with some praising the attacking intent.
A fan commented, “The display showed promise even if it lacked a cutting edge.” New arrivals Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo were highlighted as encouraging additions, with their movement and energy offering hope that Amorim’s project is beginning to take shape.
Yet defensive concerns dominated much of the debate. Set-piece vulnerability was repeatedly mentioned, with one supporter writing: “We look vulnerable on set pieces, and the energy from the Arsenal game is non-existent.”
Goalkeeper Altay Bayindir also drew criticism after several uncertain moments, reminding fans of previous costly errors.
Overall, reaction was mixed. The positives of attacking play and glimpses from new signings were balanced by anger at wasted opportunities and defensive fragility.
“Not many positives beyond the opening 10 minutes,” sighed one supporter, capturing the frustration of a fanbase still waiting for Amorim’s first league win.
With United stuck searching for consistency, fans remain hopeful but clear in their demands: sharper finishing and greater defensive resilience are needed if this season is to build momentum.
