Manchester United are preparing a move for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson in the upcoming January transfer window and "confident" they will sign him.
Sources claim
United are keen to strengthen their midfield options and view the 22-year-old England international as an ideal long-term addition.
The club’s recruitment department, led by technical director Jason Wilcox and manager
Rúben Amorim, have identified Anderson’s versatility and physical attributes as key reasons for their interest.
According to TEAMtalk, United are “confident” that a structured offer could tempt Forest into selling, despite the Midlands club valuing Anderson at around £80 million.
It is believed United would prefer a deal closer to £60 million, potentially including performance-related add-ons to bridge the gap.
Anderson has been one of Forest’s standout performers this season, impressing with his work rate, ball-carrying ability, and tactical awareness. His consistent form has already earned him senior England recognition and attracted interest from several top Premier League clubs, including Chelsea and Manchester City.
Pundits have also taken notice. Former England defender Martin Keown recently described Anderson as a player ready to make the next step, saying:
“I thought he was outstanding… He has got happy feet in that midfield, he is tenacious, he gets up and down. He looks like a nailed-on now in that England team.”
Those comments will only heighten speculation that a move to a top-six club could be on the horizon. Amorim is said to admire Anderson’s “energy and intelligence” in midfield and believes his profile would complement Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes.
Forest, however, are under no pressure to sell. The midfielder signed a new deal last year keeping him at the City Ground until 2029, and insiders insist he remains a key part of their long-term plans.
Even so, Manchester United’s interest underlines their intent to inject youth and dynamism into Amorim’s squad — and Anderson fits that brief perfectly.
