Manchester United already have one summer signing lined up as they look to reinforce their attack following a turbulent season.
The Red Devils are enduring a difficult campaign, struggling in the bottom half of the Premier League table while facing intense scrutiny over board decisions.
Under new manager Ruben Amorim, United have lost eight of their last 20 games in all competitions, making it clear that a major squad overhaul is necessary.

United’s January Window: Rashford and Antony Exit

Despite their need for attacking reinforcements, United were unable to actively reshape their squad in January due to financial constraints.
The club prioritized offloading players to raise funds, with only Marcus Rashford and Antony departing.
Their only major winter signing was Patrick Dorgu, who arrived in a £25m deal, leaving them short in attacking options.
While United were linked with several forwards, they failed to replace Rashford, who completed a loan move to Aston Villa late in the window.
Currently, Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee are the club’s only natural strikers, both of whom have struggled to deliver consistent goals.
As a result, United are expected to prioritize a striker in the summer, with Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyökeres emerging as their top target.

Gyökeres Deal ‘In Place’ for the Summer

According to The Independent, United have already secured an agreement to sign Gyökeres, which explains why they didn’t pursue a direct replacement for Rashford in January.
"The club did not replace [Rashford] with any forward… and the thinking there is that Sporting’s Viktor Gyökeres is in place for the summer," it states. "Things can change, of course, but this was very much the noise at the end of the window."
The Swedish striker has been on fire this season, scoring 34 goals in 34 appearances, making him one of Europe’s most prolific forwards. Despite his form, Gyökeres reportedly has a gentleman’s agreement with Sporting allowing him to leave for £58m this summer.

Competition and Amorim’s Stance

United may still face competition from Premier League rivals, but their strong relationship with Gyökeres—built during Amorim’s tenure at Sporting—could give them an edge.
When asked about signing Sporting players, Amorim had previously ruled out any January moves but left the door open for the summer:
"I won’t be signing [Sporting players] in January, that’s what I said," Amorim stated."I don’t know about the summer. The main thing is to hold on until the summer [laughs]. After that, we’ll see. Sporting’s players are very good players. I don’t know. We’ll see."
With United desperate for a proven goalscorer, securing Gyökeres could be a crucial step in their rebuild under Amorim. If reports are accurate, the deal is already in motion, setting the stage for a major summer arrival at Old Trafford.
