Maguire joins chorus of Man Utd players hoping Rashford stays as he is 'huge threat'

Harry Maguire says he "hopes" Marcus Rashford stays at Manchester United as he is a "huge threat".

Rashford came on as a second-half substitute in his first game for United since December 2024 in the 4-2 pre-season defeat by AC Milan in Wroclaw.

But even in the short amount of time he had to impress he came close to scoring and now Maguire has followed other teammates in wishing that Rashford stays.

Manager Michael Carrick has also always said that he has a good relationship with the player telling of their "history" together as he was a player when Rashford made his debut.

"Obviously the transfer window is still open," said Maguire. "As players, we hope he stays because if he does, he is a big asset to have. He can improve us for sure.

"You saw when he came on, he threatened the backline really well. He could have scored. He's a huge threat.

"I've played with Marcus for numerous years and I know that playing against him and playing with him in training is going to help us."

Meanwhile, Maguire admitted that it was United's "worst" game of the preseason against Milan ahead of the first Premier League game where they face Hull.

Bruno Fernandes missed a penalty for the second game running, which would have made it 2-1 at half-time, although there were encouraging signs in his link-up play with Youri Tielemans as both completed the full 90 minutes for the first time.

"We're wanting to play much further up the pitch, be more aggressive and more on the front foot," said Maguire.

"This was the only game where I didn't feel we did ourselves justice in that aspect. We had a lot of high regains and created a lot of chances from that, but we didn't sustain our pressure anywhere close to enough."

It was also a game against Milan where some of the players will have had a point to prove against Ruben Amorim but it wasn't to be.

Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo, who both fell out with Amorim, were on the other side of the pitch acknowledging supporters when the Portuguese saw some of his old players as they left the field post-presentation.

Noussair Mazraoui has also previously said that Rashford can be a "big signing" for United as they aim "really high" this season.

"We have some great signings, Rashy who comes back who can be a big one, this season," said Mazraoui, who added: "If he of course doesn't leave that isn't up to me of course.

"We have big signings, good signings, the team is strong and now even stronger so we have to aim really high."
