Manchester United are closing in on keeper Senne Lammens of Royal Antwerp who has emerged as the favourite in the scouting department.
Advanced talks are now underway for Lammens with United’s pursuit having gathered pace in recent days, with
reports suggesting a fee of around £17 million has been agreed in principle.
At just 23, he represents a long-term project who can immediately provide competition for
André Onana, whose own performances have been mixed since arriving from Inter Milan in 2023.
Sources close to the deal insist
Amorim views Lammens as more than a backup, underlining the seriousness of United’s intentions.
Other options remain in circulation, but appear less probable. Gianluigi Donnarumma, long admired by United, continues to be linked, particularly after Wayne Rooney suggested the Italian could be a “world-class solution.”
However, Donnarumma’s wages and PSG’s unwillingness to sanction a deal make this route complicated and financially demanding.
Meanwhile, talk of a romantic reunion with David de Gea has generated intrigue. The Spaniard, who left in 2023 after more than a decade of service, recently posted the cryptic message “We could meet again” on Instagram.
While popular with many fans, a return would be a short-term fix and run against Amorim’s focus on building a sustainable squad.
For now, all signs point towards Lammens. His profile—young, modern in style, and affordable—ticks several of United’s key boxes. The move would also allow Amorim to continue reshaping the squad without consuming the club’s full financial flexibility.
With the clock ticking on the window, United’s hierarchy appear set on securing Lammens and finalising their goalkeeper department before attention turns to other positions.
The decision marks a clear direction: while marquee names may appeal, it is the pragmatic and forward-thinking move for Lammens that looks set to define United’s next chapter in goal.
