Manchester United’s young defender
Ayden Heaven suffered a distressing injury during the team’s Premier League match against Leicester City.
The 18-year-old centre-back, who had a starting place, collapsed in discomfort early in the second half while attempting to intercept a ball near the back post.
Medical staff quickly attended to Heaven, who was visibly in pain, and he was stretchered off the pitch to applause from concerned fans. Toby Collyer replaced him in the game.
Commentator Andy Hinchcliffe, speaking on Sky Sports, noted the awkward nature of Heaven’s fall, raising concerns about the severity of the injury.
United are yet to provide an official update on Heaven’s condition, but the incident has cast a shadow over the match.
"It's the way that he went down, Ayden Heaven," Hinchcliffe said during the broadcaster's coverage of the match. "It was awkward, a twisting motion. How unfortunate is this? He's just got his break, just got himself into the team. It doesn't look good. You can only wish him all the best."
Rasmus Hojlund scored the opener and then United had a disallowed goal for Alejandro Garnacho.
Head coach Ruben Amorim said rotation was the reason behind his decision to recall Manuel Ugarte against Leicester City.
The United chief has made three changes for the clash at the King Power Stadium, one of which is enforced amid Patrick Dorgu's domestic ban. Tonight's game will mark the third and final domestic fixture he will miss.
Ugarte replaced Casemiro in the centre of United's midfield, bringing the Brazilian's run of three successive starts to an end. He impressed against Real Sociedad in the Europa League on Thursday night, but a fourth start in a little over a week risked being too much for the former Real Madrid man.
Asked what Ugarte's inclusion means for the team, Amorim told Sky Sports: "It's important, but it is more rotation because Casemiro has been doing an amazing job. But after three games in a row, he was so tired last Thursday, so we felt that we needed to rotate some players because we need to be fresh for this game."
