Rasmus Hojlund grabbed a double in a much needed 3-2 win for Man Utd in the Europa League where they came from behind to beat Bodo Glimt.
And when the Dane equalised at 2-2 before half-time he ran over to the fans put his thumb up, and then turned it down, adding a cut-throat gesture, as in scenes from The Gladiator at Rome's Coliseum.
It replicated when a Roman Emperor would call for a fighter to be shown no mercy.
Hojlund did then finish off the visitors when he added his second in the 50th minute.
The goals for Hojlund were badly needed as he and the rest of the forward line have struggled to hit the back of the net so far this season.
It has led to new coach Ruben Amorim to scour the market for reinforcements in January and Hojlund was keen to show what he is capable of in the Portuguese's first game in charge at Old Trafford.
After a draw in his first match at Ipswich they took the lead in just 48 seconds in a contest that saw United’s hopes of automatic qualification for the Europa knockout stages revived.
Hojlund pressured Jostein Gundersen’s back pass to put pressure on goalkeeper Nikita Haikin and he won the ball before supplying Alejandro Garnacho to score.
But like with the Ipswich match United struggled to build on the lead and it was the visitors who grew in the game before turning it around.
Sondre Brunstad Fet pulled the ball back for Hakon Evjen who released a stunning shot from the edge of the area into the far top corner after 19 minutes.
And four minutes later they took the lead with Tyrell Malacia showing an understandable lack of sharpness after 550 days out.
Playing wing back he was outpaced by Philip Zinckermagel who then powered into the box and fired low past Andre Onana into the corner.
United were struggling but they pulled level before the break. Noussair Mazraoui did well to win possession and then chip a cross into the area.
Hojlund flicked the ball up with his left foot and fired a volley home with his right, before setting off in celebration.
United maintained the momentum from that as the returning Mason Mount hit the bar shortly after the restart. Then the Red Devils took the lead as Hojliund finished off a great move.
Mazraoui was involved again playing the ball forward for the returning Mount whose clever flick rolled into the path of Bruno Fernandes.
And Manuel Ugarte's square ball was perfectly waited to beat a VAR check as Hojlund suck out a foot and turned it in.
But it was a nervy finish as the visitors earned a free-kick on the edge of the box after a clever foul from Casemiro.
Berg fired the ball over the wall but Onana dive to his right to push the ball away to safety with a quick VAR quick cleared.
So victory for Amorim in his first game in charge at Old Trafford and much to be positive about too.
It was not just Hojlund’s goals but the performances of Mazraoui and Mount. Garnacho was all action again, he missed a lot of chances but he scores too and never stops.
