Rasmus Højlund’s Manchester United future has taken another twist, with the Danish striker now open to the possibility of joining AC Milan this summer.
The 22-year-old, who arrived at Old Trafford from Atalanta in 2023 for £72 million, had previously insisted he wanted to stay and fight for his place.
However, the recent arrival of Benjamin Šeško, coupled with United’s wish to restructure their attack, has prompted a rethink.
According to reports in Italy and England, United and Milan have reached a verbal agreement over a season-long loan worth €6 million (£5.1m), with an option to buy set at €45 million (£38m).
While the framework is in place, the deal hinges on Højlund’s approval—something that was lacking earlier in the summer but now appears increasingly likely.
Sources close to the negotiations suggest Milan’s project, led by coach Paulo Fonseca, has appealed to Højlund, reported La Gazzetta.
The prospect of regular starting minutes in Serie A and Champions League football could prove decisive. United, meanwhile, see the move as a chance to free up funds for reinforcements in other areas, while easing the attacking logjam.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Milan’s strong interest, but also noted that Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, and Newcastle United are monitoring the situation closely. If Milan fail to secure final approval, other suitors could step in.
Højlund struggled last season and his confidence appeared to collapse while at the same time Ruben Amorim didn't have an alternative following his fall out with Marcus Rashford. Now a move back to Italy could be an opportunity for him to find his feet again.
For Milan, Højlund represents a blend of youth, physicality, and proven Serie A pedigree from his Atalanta days. His arrival would bolster a squad aiming to challenge Juventus and Inter for the title.
While there is optimism a deal can be completed before the window closes, United remain prepared to keep Højlund if the right terms aren’t met. For now, all eyes are on the player’s final decision—one that could reshape the forward lines of two European giants.
