Alejandro Garnacho has told his agent that he wants to join Chelsea after being told he is not part of Ruben Amorim's plans at Manchester United.
reportedly informed his representatives of his desire to join Chelsea, with United now prepared to listen to offers for the 20-year-old winger as part of a sweeping summer overhaul.
According to reports from ESPN and TeamTalk, Garnacho is keen on a move to Stamford Bridge, where he believes he could take on a more central role in a younger, attacking-minded team.
Chelsea, long admirers of the Argentine, are said to be exploring the feasibility of a deal — though United have placed a high valuation of £70 million on the player.
The decision to put Garnacho on the market comes amid mounting tensions between the player and manager Rúben Amorim.
Garnacho was excluded from the final Premier League match of the season and given only a brief appearance in the Europa League final loss to Tottenham, fueling speculation of a breakdown in their working relationship.
“It’s best you find a club that suits you,” Amorim reportedly told Garnacho during internal meetings, per Spanish outlet Marca.
Despite scoring 9 goals and providing 6 assists this season, Garnacho has been criticised for inconsistent performances and moments of indiscipline — including a social media ‘like’ mocking Amorim’s tactics.
United fans are divided over the potential sale. While some view Garnacho as one of the few bright sparks in a poor season, others support Amorim’s vision of building a more tactically cohesive, high-pressing side, where individual flair alone won’t guarantee a starting spot.
“No one is bigger than the project,” a source close to INEOS told ESPN. “If he doesn’t fit the structure, the club will move forward without him.”
Chelsea are expected to open talks in the coming weeks, possibly exploring a structured deal or player swap to ease the financial burden of a big-money signing. Other clubs, including Atlético Madrid and AC Milan, remain interested, but Garnacho’s preference appears to be staying in the Premier League.
Unless there’s a dramatic U-turn, one of United’s most promising academy graduates may be heading for the exit — and to a rival.
