Manchester United winger
Alejandro Garnacho has dropped the biggest hint yet he is thinking of leaving Old Trafford – after “discreetly” putting his house up for sale.
The Argentinian winger, 20, has instructed estate agents to offload his £3.85 million mansion in Cheshire, sparking fears among fans that he’s plotting an exit from
United this summer.
Garnacho snapped up the plush seven-bedroom pad in Bowdon, Greater Manchester, for £3.804 million last April, moving in with his partner Eva Garcia and their one-year-old son, Enzo.
But just 12 months later, he’s looking to cash out, listing it for £3.85 million—a modest £45,000 profit. The Sun said the agent handling the sale has been told to keep it hush-hush, posting just one photo online with the note that the property is “exclusively and discreetly marketed.”
The listing went live on March 28, but it didn’t stay under wraps for long—an eagle-eyed United fan spotted it and sounded the alarm.
“It’s a massive red flag,” the fan told The Sun. “He’s only been there a year. Why sell now unless he’s planning to leave Manchester? Footballers don’t just up and move like this for no reason.”
The news has sent shockwaves through the United faithful, already reeling from a torrid season that sees their team stuck in 13th place under new boss Ruben Amorim.
Garnacho, who joined United’s academy from Atletico Madrid in 2020 and broke into the first team in 2022, has been a rare bright spark in recent years. He’s racked up 92 appearances, scoring 15 goals, including a screamer in last season’s FA Cup final win over Manchester City.
But his form has dipped this term—four goals in 29 Premier League games—and he’s struggled to adapt to Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, often cutting a frustrated figure on the wing or as a substitute.
The club’s financial woes have only fueled transfer talk. As an academy product, Garnacho’s sale would count as “pure profit” under Profitability and Sustainability Rules, making him a prime candidate for a cash-in.
Sources say Chelsea and Napoli are circling, with a £50 million fee mooted, though United turned down a £38 million bid from Napoli in January. Juventus have also been linked with a summer swoop.
A United insider said: “The house sale doesn’t mean he’s gone yet, but it’s not a good sign. Alejandro’s been unsettled—new manager, new tactics, and the team’s a mess. If a big offer comes in, it’ll be hard to say no.”
Amorim, however, has stood by his young star, saying after a recent 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest: “Garnacho’s working hard. He’s improving how he defends and runs. He just needs to find that spark again.”
Off the pitch, Garnacho’s life has been a whirlwind. He and Eva welcomed Enzo in October 2023, and he’s won hearts with gestures like giving a local mum, Leah Smith, a tour of United’s training ground after she found his loose dogs last year. But this latest move suggests the family might not see Manchester as home for much longer.
