Ruud van Nistelrooy believes that the shake-up at
Manchester United under
Ruben Amorim is a mistake.
And the former United interim manager is grateful for the coaching changes which have inadvertently helped him since his appointment at Leicester City.
The Dutch legend was part of Erik ten Hag's coaching staff but found himself out of a job when Ten Hag was replaced by Amorim.
Amorim brought in his own coaching team, leading to Van Nistelrooy's departure from Old Trafford.
Amorim's arrival saw Carlos Fernandes, Jorge Vital, Adelio Candido, Emanuel Ferro, and Paulo Barreira join United's coaching staff, with Van Nistelrooy leaving along with compatriots Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar, and Pieter Morel.
However, this unexpected turn of events ultimately paved the way for Van Nistelrooy's appointment as Leicester City manager.
"I'm grateful to
Manchester United for the push," Van Nistelrooy said. "It's opened a new door for me."
Van Nistelrooy also praised his former colleague Jelle Ten Rouwelaar, who has joined him at Leicester as goalkeeping coach.
The Dutchman believes that Ten Rouwelaar's expertise will be invaluable in improving the performances of Leicester's goalkeepers, particularly Mads Hermansen.
"He's (Ten Rouwelaar) a fantastic addition to the team," Van Nistelrooy said. "He's not only improving the goalkeepers and playing out, but the players around the keeper to do better.
"Of course, you need everyone to be involved in playing out from the back and that whole process he's great at."
The Foxes boss believes that Ten Rouwelaar got the best out of Onana.
"He's (Hermansen) having a very good season overall. He makes a lot of saves, we're trying to reduce that amount. Mads is all around. He's a good shot-stopper, excellent footballer," said Van Nisetelrooy.
"He (Ten Rouwelaar) will make Mads better for sure. He's worked with young talented goalkeepers and made them improve into the highest level.
"[Bart] Verbruggen is one of course, who he worked with at Anderlecht. He worked with Onana at United and I think he was in the best form of his life in the months he worked with Jelle.
"He's a fantastic addition to the team. He's not only improving the goalkeepers and playing out, but the players around the keeper to do better. Of course you need everyone to be involved in playing out from the back and that whole process he's great at."
Van Nistelrooy's early days at Leicester have been mixed. While he secured a crucial victory over West Ham, his side suffered a heavy defeat to Newcastle United.
However, the former striker remains optimistic about the future and believes that with the right support and guidance, Leicester can turn things around.
