He was part of the last successful United team before the departure of Alex Ferguson which was marked by the presence of fellow Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo at United.
Post United, Nani's career took him to Fenerbahce and subsequently around the world, playing in Spain with Valencia, Italy with Lazio, and the USA with Orlando City.
His most recent stint was back in Portugal with Estrella Amadora. Nani's retirement announcement comes with hints at his future plans.
