Shea Lacey hit the woodwork and fired narrowly wide after listening to a key piece of advice from interim manager Darren Fletcher.
The 18-year-old has long been touted for a bright future at Old Trafford and his talent is at last being shown in the first team with his magical left foot.
Having been introduced in the second half, he was desperately unlucky not to score a third goal for United which would have earned United a win away to Burnley on Wednesday.
But unluckily his left-foot drive came back off the crossbar and he then late in the game went close with another raking shot.
Lacey clearly didn't lack confidence and after the game Fletcher revealed what he said to him before the match.
"I said to him [Lacey] to stay wide and go and do what you do. He did that and stayed wide on the right. I know he is going to make an impact, he’s creative and has got goals in him," said Fletcher.
"He’s exciting, direct and fearless. He hit the crossbar and had another shot and had a really bright game. I'm pleased for him.
"He’s had a lot of injuries in recent years and not really got going with his momentum but we know he’s talent who has got to be a big part of Manchester United’s future, I've no doubts about that."
He made his debut before Christmas against Aston Villa, with Nicky Butt saying with his strong left-foot and "skippy" style he reminds him of Emre while Paul Scholes likened him to Phil Foden at Manchester City.
"I'll tell you who he reminds me of Shea Lacey, because he was with Ruben my son, and Jack and Tyler (Fletcher) were all the same age - they all came through together although Jack and Tyler were at City but they knew each other as kids," started Butt.
"He reminds me of Emre, remember Emre? Who was a lot more chubby."
And Scholes jumped in: "At Newcastle", before Butt continues: "And he was at Galatasaray, unbelievable left foot. Very skippy, he's like that Shea, he's really skippy as opposed to a glider.
"When he was a kid, he used to play in all these tournaments, like all over the world, all the ones you go to when he was eight, nine, 10, 11, it was always like, 'Wow, he's gonna be a top, top player'. He's had a lot of injuries over the last few years."
While Scholes told The Good, The Bad and The Football: "I just thought every time I saw him Phil Foden."
He added: "I remember seeing him three or four years ago ... and I thought he was exactly like Phil Foden.
"I think United have got a young Phil Foden there. He's only 18, he's only 18 now, I thought he was a bit older than that because I remember seeing that long ago."But again, he's probably very similar to Foden but he needs to develop a little bit more and he will be, I think he'll be some player."
