Chido Obi could be heading for a move from Manchester United on loan to gain experience.
Ruben Amorim admitted it was “too soon” for Obi to play eight first-team games last season after he signed from Arsenal’s academy in November 2024.
He failed to make his mark and now the 17-year-old has had his chances reduced due to the summer signings.
Amorim thought it was best to place Obi with the Under-21s for the 2025-26 season to continue his development.
And he has impressed for Travis Binnion’s side this term, with five goals in 13 games and his hold-up play and link-up improving all the time.
United are open to sending Obi out on loan in January to give him more first team experience in the EFL or National League.
The club are happy with how the majority of their loan deals have worked out for the first half of the season, as they assess how to approach the second.
First team matchday squad member and former Hale End youth star Ayden Heaven’s situation is also likely to be assessed, reported The Sun.
The 19-year-old defender has shown plenty of promise under Amorim, but he has played just 158 minutes this season and was an unused sub in Sunday’s 2-1 win at Crystal Palace.
He has has made two senior appearances in the Premier League this season, during the 1-1 draw at Fulham and also coming on in the 4-2 win over Brighton, when he brilliantly assisted Bryan Mbeumo‘s second goal.
And options have also been reduced with no European competition this season and the early exit from the Carabao Cup.
Lisandro Martinez’s return to the pitch at Selhurst Park pushes Heaven down to third-choice left centre back, behind the World Cup winner and Luke Shaw.
And a further player who may be loaned out in January is full-back Diego Leon. The 18-year-old arrived last summer in a deal worth up to £7m with the plan that he could force his way into the first team.
But the Paraguayan – who has been with the U21 side this year – is still waiting for his competitive debut and is now open to a temporary switch away from Carrington.
