Bruno Fernandes was sent off as Manchester United crashed 2-0 away to Wolves.
Cunha was the standout player throughout the match, and his decisive moment came when his second-half corner curled directly into the net, catching Andre Onana off guard.
This marked the second time in three games that United have conceded a goal directly from a corner.
Fernandes' red card for two bookable offenses left United in a precarious position, and Ruben Amorim’s team couldn’t recover.
Hee-Chan Hwang added a second goal in the 99th minute, assisted by Cunha, sealing a massive win for Wolves under their new manager Vitor Pereira.
This victory was only their second Premier League win at home this season, but it makes it two wins in two for Pereira, lifting Wolves to 17th in the table.
United’s defeat dropped them to 14th in the Premier League standings. While Fernandes’ red card might provide some context for the loss, the overall performance from United was lackluster.
There was tension inside Molineux as United pushed for an equalizer, but their efforts lacked conviction, and the defeat highlighted deeper problems within Amorim’s squad.
Cunha’s goal was the fifth set-piece goal United have conceded under Amorim and the second directly from a corner in just two weeks.
No Premier League team has conceded a higher proportion of goals from such situations this season.
Amorim acknowledged this issue, stating, "When you are jumping, the slightest touch—against Tottenham it was in the arm, today it was in the back. When you touch someone when he's jumping, it's really hard to catch the ball."
The focus at United may be on the long-term rebuild, but these defensive frailties need immediate attention to prevent further decline.
Amorim admitted, "In this moment we just have to survive and take some time to work on the team. We already knew it.
"I started this job and we started with the team, the new idea, without any time to train, with a lot of tough games. We already knew it’s a long journey."
Both Wolves and United have undergone managerial changes since this fixture produced a 4-3 thriller last season.
Under their respective Portuguese coaches, both sides deployed 3-4-2-1 formations, but it was Wolves who adapted better. Even before Fernandes’ red card, United struggled to break down a Wolves side that started the day in the bottom three.
Reflecting on United’s lackluster display, Amorim said, "They need time to train, they are changing completely.
"The way of playing is really hard on them, it's really hard on the staff also to pass all the information. When you don't have results, it's even harder for them to believe. We have to continue."
United’s upcoming fixtures provide little respite, with Newcastle next, followed by consecutive away matches against Liverpool and Arsenal in the Premier League and FA Cup, respectively.
Amorim warned of tough times ahead, stating, "The idea needs time. I said it before to you guys, this will be a tough moment, and we are far from at the end of this moment. We have to continue and focus on the next thing."
Asked how long it will take for his ideas to work at United, Amorim admitted, "I have no idea.
"Instead of me trying to understand how much time it will take, just day by day, improving, trying to see the videos, using every minute of training, and trying to win some points because it's really important in this moment."
When questioned about Fernandes’ red card, Amorim expressed his frustration but defended the player’s intent:
"I'm always frustrated with the red card, but it can happen," he said. "He wants to go to the ball, it's not like he wants to stop a play with a yellow. He wants to go to the ball, and then the other guy touches the ball first, and then there is a contact."
This defeat leaves Amorim with much to ponder as he works to implement his vision at a struggling Manchester United.
