Antony appears to have taken a dig at
Manchester United with a message to Real Betis about "his people, his world".
Hi time at United seems to be drawing to a close after he moved to Betis in January where he rediscovered his form after a torrid time at Old Trafford.
On I
nstagram he posted a message with
his loan spell at Betis now at an end. He wrote: “Thank you so much for this magical season. My people. My world. So much Betis. Always!”
The post, paired with photos of him celebrating in a Betis shirt, has sparked intense speculation that Antony does not intend to return to United, where his future under Rúben Amorim appears bleak.
United signed Antony from Ajax for £85 million in 2022, but the 24-year-old has failed to consistently deliver.
His time at Old Trafford has been marred by underwhelming form, off-field controversies, and a lack of tactical adaptability. This past season, he managed just 2 goals and 2 assists in all competitions before being loaned out.
“This isn’t just a thank you,” one fan replied on X. “It sounds like a goodbye — and a plea to Betis.”
Sources close to the club suggest that United are actively looking to move Antony on permanently this summer. Betis would like to keep him, but financial limitations may require either a reduced fee or a second loan, potentially with an obligation to buy.
Amorim, who is overseeing a full squad reset, reportedly sees Antony as a poor fit for his pressing system and is eager to bring in more dynamic, versatile wide players.
United have already been linked with Bryan Mbeumo and are considering a long-term successor to fill the right-wing role.
“We’re building a team with identity,” Amorim said recently. “That means hard work, tactical flexibility, and players who give everything.”
With Antony’s cryptic post making waves, it now appears only a formal transfer stands between him and a full-time Betis switch. For United, it’s another step in what’s becoming a ruthless but necessary rebuild.
