Brazilian winger
Antony may not have fitted in at
Manchester United but he has underlined his commitment to Real Betis after turning down several lucrative offers in order to complete his move.
The 25-year-old completed his switch last week in a deal worth €22 million plus €3 million in bonuses, alongside a significant 50% sell-on clause that Manchester United inserted into the agreement.
The contract also includes a variable release clause, estimated between €50–60 million, protecting Betis’s investment while reflecting market realities.
Antony's belief in the Spanish club’s long-term project saw him turn down other options from bigger clubs like Bayern Munich.
Choosing Betis Over Bigger Offers
Reports in Spain revealed that Antony rejected up to eight alternative offers, including a particularly attractive proposal from Bayern Munich, who were prepared to pay him €7 million net per season.
Despite the financial appeal, Antony insisted on joining Betis, convinced by both the sporting project and the opportunity to play a central role rather than being a rotation option at a European giant.
Club sources described Antony as “determined” and “uncompromising” in his decision. For Betis, securing his signature was not only a coup on the pitch but also a statement of intent off it, reported
El Desmarque.
A Key Piece in Betis’s Ambitious Plans
Betis have framed Antony as one of the cornerstones of their new cycle. Manager Manuel Pellegrini and the board view him as the marquee attacker capable of elevating the team’s attacking play while also boosting Betis’s international profile.
His arrival is part of a broader ambition to secure Champions League qualification and establish Betis among Spain’s consistent top-six sides.
Financially, the move reflects Betis’s willingness to push boundaries in a cautious La Liga market. At a time when Spanish clubs have been conservative in spending, Antony’s transfer represents one of the boldest investments of the summer.
A Signal of Belief
For Antony, the move is as much about trust as ambition. After a difficult period at Manchester United, where form and off-field issues hindered his progress, the Brazilian sees Betis as the environment to rediscover his best football.
His decision to reject bigger contracts elsewhere underlines both his determination and his belief in Betis’s growing project.
