Ruben Amorim is ‘dissatisfied’ with his attacking options at
Manchester United and wants the club to move for Victor Osimhen
The Portuguese has urged the club’s hierarchy to pursue the striker who is also a long-term Chelsea target.
The initial optimism surrounding
Amorim’s appointment at Old Trafford has waned after a string of underwhelming results.
While United secured a morale-boosting victory over local rivals Manchester City, they followed it up with a Carabao Cup quarter-final exit to Tottenham and a humbling 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth.
United have now won less than half of their matches since Amorim replaced the sacked Erik ten Hag, but the Portuguese manager insists he understands the magnitude of the task.
Amorim said about the latest Bournemouth defeat: “We already knew it, we knew the challenge is big.
"But it’s one set-piece, one penalty, and a moment where we have to forget the context and keep the ball for a moment without trying to score two goals right away.
"It’s a really tough moment, and we have to address that.”
Amorim is reportedly keen to implement his ideas and reshape the squad, beginning with
transfers in January.
According to Sky Sport Germany, Amorim is growing increasingly frustrated with his current forwards.
Rasmus Hojlund has struggled to justify his £72m price tag, while Joshua Zirkzee’s first six months in the Premier League have been disappointing.
The report claims Amorim has identified Osimhen as his top target and has communicated his desire to bring the Nigerian striker to Old Trafford.
Osimhen has been a prolific scorer in Europe, netting 76 goals in 133 appearances for Napoli.
However, his relationship with Napoli soured after a falling out with manager Antonio Conte, leading to a loan move to Galatasaray last summer.
Chelsea narrowly missed out on signing Osimhen on transfer deadline day after failing to agree personal terms.
Although Napoli loaned him to Galatasaray, the Italian club retains the option to recall the 25-year-old in January and sell him permanently.
United reportedly have ‘no problem’ meeting Osimhen’s personal demands but may face difficulties negotiating with Napoli, who value the striker at €75 million (£62m).
While Osimhen is a priority, United are also in the market for a midfielder and a left-back. Financial constraints could force the club to offload players to boost their transfer budget, with Marcus Rashford—who has barely featured under Amorim—on the chopping block.
United, currently languishing in 13th place in the Premier League, will conclude the year with games against Wolves on Boxing Day and Newcastle United on December 30.
