Ruben Amorim has admitted that Manchester United are in constant talks about how to strengthen their squad — particularly in attack — as the team continues to struggle in front of goal.
Following a 1-0 home defeat to Wolves, United recorded their 15th Premier League loss of the season and failed to score for the 13th time in this campaign.
Their goal difference has dropped to -8, and they’ve now lost eight times at Old Trafford for the first time since the 1962-63 season.
At the heart of United’s attacking woes is Rasmus Højlund, who has just one goal in 28 Premier League appearances, and has scored in only six of his 45 total matches this season.
Despite this, Amorim made it clear he’s not ready to drop the £72 million striker during the run-in.
With backup forward Joshua Zirkzee out for the season, Amorim turned to 17-year-old Chido Obi, who replaced Højlund in the second half against Wolves.
“We’ll address that at the end,” Amorim said. “Of course, we have a plan — we talk about it every day — but the season isn’t over, and our focus has to stay on the present.”
He emphasized that the team’s scoring issues are not solely down to Højlund: “It’s a team issue. We play with at least three attacking players and midfielders who get forward.
"Everyone needs to contribute more — it’s not just Rasmus missing chances.”
Amorim insisted the solution lies in coaching and confidence: “The only way I know is to keep working with him, show him the clips.
"He won’t score if he’s not on the pitch, so I try to manage him during games. Sometimes one goal is all a striker needs to get going.”
Despite dominating stretches of the match, United couldn’t break through, and Wolves completed the league double over them for the first time since 1979-80.
The result leaves Amorim’s side sitting 14th, just narrowly above the relegation zone.
“We were the better team, but it doesn’t matter if we don’t take our chances,” Amorim said. “We controlled the game, we created chances, but one set piece cost us. It’s incredibly frustrating.”
