Amad Diallo tells of Michael Carrick's message to the
Manchester United players as he bids to show his talent at the World Cup for Ivory Coast against Ecuador.
The winger sent a clear message to
Carrick that he's ready to make a mark on the Reds next season, after scoring the winner for the Ivory Coast against France in their World Cup warm-up.
He danced inside two defenders and drilled the ball into the bottom corner from 18-yards out in that game.
And now Amad is aiming to show his trickery on the wing for Ivory Coast against Ecuador.
Amad was one of the players who impressed following Ruben Amorim's arrival at Old Trafford scoring 11 goals and notching ten assists in 2024-25.
However, the Ivorian struggled to replicate that form last season, and did not register a goal contribution in 2026 until the final day of the season.
He struggled to replicate that form over the past season although he has a good understanding with Carrick.
"I actually think he is playing well," Carrick explained. "There is an awful lot more in the game, playing in a winning team like he has, to worry about numbers.
"He gives the team so much. He has got so much talent. His work ethic and attitude is fantastic. He has played different roles at times. I'm a big fan."
And Amad said of Carrick how his message was always of being team and "your mistake is my mistake".
He said: “He’s that manager who has a good relationship with every player, so we are really happy to have him as manager."
Amad is enjoying life under Carrick, and added: “Even when you are in tough moments, he’s there to talk to you, he’s there to help you,” he said – as is the spirit he has cultivated.
“I think the biggest change maybe is because the team is now more impactful. Like in the dressing room, we are really together.
“Every mistake is not a problem, your mistake is my mistake, so we are a team that doesn’t care if you do a mistake, you go again, so we go forward, we want to win as a team.
“That’s something that changed the team, and I think it’s also because of Michael Carrick and his staff – don’t forget also Trav (coach Travis Binnion) and the other staff.
“They are really important for the team, and they bring that kind of energy to the team, and that is very important.”
