Man Utd transfer latest: Rogers says 'no bigger team' as he calls Carrick 'great manager'

Morgan Rogers tells of "great manager" Michael Carrick as he says "there is no bigger team than Manchester United".

The race has been heating up for Aston Villa's left-winger but he may have already made his mind up based on previous comments.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester CIty are all reported to be looking at Rogers but United have an advantage with the player having also spoken of how much he liked working previously with Michael Carrick at Middlesbrough..

Rogers is also said to be high up on Mikel Arteta's list of summer targets for Arsenal, with the midfielder enjoying another fine season at Villa with 14 goals and 12 assists in all competitions.

Villa are expected to do all they can to keep the player amid talk of a £100million-plus asking price, but United would need to significantly knock down that figure.

United see Rogers as their ideal long-term replacement for Bruno Fernandes. The club captain is not leaving anytime soon, and his powers are by no means waning, but turns 32 years old in September.

While Rogers' feelings for United were made clear earlier this season, in December, following Villa's 2-1 win over United in which he scored both goals, Rogers said: "It's massive. Every game is important, there's no bigger team than United.

"They came here to play, they're a tough team to play against and we've not had a great record against them recently so we knew we had to put it right and we're happy with the three points."

Meanwhile, Rogers was signed by Carrick at Middlesbrough in 2023. In 33 appearances under him, Rogers scored seven goals and made nine assists.

Speaking to Sky Sports earlier in the 2025/26 season, Rogers explained the impact that Carrick had on his career.

“Carrick was a great manager, he was obviously someone everyone looks up to as a player, and knew how good he was,” Rogers said.

“I really enjoyed it. We were playing great football, everything about it was great. That didn’t always work in my favour in terms of me being in and out of the team.

“But I had a manager who always stuck by me, always believed in me, always spoke to me. That was massive for me at that time.

“I had a person in the manager who really stood by me and helped me. even if I wasn’t playing, that little telling to the side, explaining why I wasn’t playing.

“I understand coaches can’t do that for everyone, but for me, that was massive. When I did get in the team, I was flying.”
