Man Utd plan youth team clear-out with at least 3 highly-rated starlets set to leave

Manchester United are having a clear-out with three highly-rated youth players with three starlets told they can leave.

Michael Carrick continues to give opportunities to United youngsters in pre-season and has given debuts to JJ Gabriel and Jim Thwaites.

He is a huge advocate for the academy since his interim appointment in January, regularly attending youth games, and he has shown faith in academy prospects throughout pre-season this summer.

But not all the academy players are going to make the grade and most of the Under 21 side are available to transfer.

Only a small group including the likes of Shea Lacey, Jack and Tyler Fletcher, and Gabriel have been guaranteed their futures.

Others can be sold or have an option to go out on loan.

In the latest round of players who have been told to look for another club are Dan Gore, Harry Amass and Toby Collyer.

They have appeared in the past as though they could have made it into the first team but tellingly, Collyer and Gore were left out of the squad that travelled to Stockholm for the 2-1 pre-season friendly win over Atletico Madrid last week.

Gore instead captained United’s Under-21s in their 1-0 defeat to non-league Altrincham Town on Friday night.

Left-back Amass, 19, is set to be sold for around £6 million with several sides understood to be interested. A new loan is unlikely as United have allowed the clock to run down on Amass’ contract, which expires next summer.

Gore, 21, had two individually successful loan stints with Rotherham United but the club were relegated from League One at the end of the season. His only senior appearance for United was against Crystal Palace in the League Cup in September 2023.

Hull City hold an interest in re-signing 22-year-old Collyer following his injury-ravaged loan there last season.

Midfielder Jacob Devaney is another who could go out this summer but United are looking at a loan move for him.

Striker Chido Obi also has an uncertain future. Obi is open to a loan, but United are yet to see signs from him that he can step up into the first team and deliver.

Goalkeeper Radek Vitek is set to become the club’s third sale of the summer after United agreed an up-front £7m fee with Middlesbrough, in a package that could rise to £14m in add-ons related to appearances.

Meanwhile Cristian Orozco, 18, has just arrived with hopes that he has a big future and this season will be a case of monitoring his level.
