Manchester United are scouring the market for a left wing-back and one of their targets is ready to leave Paris Saint-Germain.
The club have reportedly made a transfer bid for PSG’s Nuno Mendes as the left-back appears open to leaving the French giants.
According to RMC Sport, negotiations over a contract extension for Mendes have stalled, with his current deal set to expire at the end of next season.
This impasse has reportedly opened the door for a potential exit, and United are ready to capitalize on it.
The Red Devils are said to have submitted an initial offer for the 22-year-old Portuguese international, but they are expected to face competition from other clubs also interested in securing his services.
Meanwhile, PSG remain hopeful of extending Mendes’ contract and are determined not to lose him during the January transfer window.
Despite PSG’s stance, reports suggest that Mendes is eager for a fresh challenge.
A move to United would reunite him with Ruben Amorim, who handed Mendes his first-team debut at Sporting CP in June 2020, just before his 18th birthday.
After a standout season at Sporting, Mendes joined PSG on loan for the 2021-22 campaign before making the move permanent for £34 million.
Since then, he has won three Ligue 1 titles and cemented his position as Portugal’s first-choice left-back.
Mendes is seen as a long-term solution to United’s left-back issues.
The club has struggled in recent years due to persistent injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, forcing both Erik ten Hag and now Amorim to rely on makeshift options in the position.
An attacking full-back like Mendes could provide United with the consistency and quality they need on the left flank.
Whether PSG will agree to part ways with one of their prized assets, however, remains to be seen.
