Diego Leon is in Manchester undergoing a medical after agreeing to sign for the Red Devils.
The 17-year-old left-back who plays for Cerro Porteño will officially join United after turning 18 in April but he travelled to the UK on Friday to see representatives from the club.
The teenager has been in impressive form since making his first-team debut for Cerro Porteño last year and had also attracted interest from Arsenal and Manchester City.
Leon is set to become United’s first signing under Ruben Amorim, marking an exciting addition to the club’s roster.
Leon was seen at the airport in Paraguay where he spoke to local media about his excitement at joining United. At the same time United are eager for the teenager to familiarize himself with the club’s facilities during his brief visit.
Leon will spend only a few days in Manchester before joining Paraguay’s Under-20 team for the South American Championship, which begins this month in Venezuela.
United will pay an initial fee of approximately £3 million, with additional performance-based add-ons included in the agreement. Paraguayan outlet Versus reports that Leon will remain at Cerro Porteño for the first half of the year before joining United for pre-season this summer.
"A lot of times you don't realise how far you can go. I have a lot of things in my head, really excited and very happy," said Leon. "They (his family) are all very happy for me, worried actually about my trip, they have not been able to come but they will be here to meet when I come back on Tuesday."

United’s Left-Back Shortage

Leon’s signing comes at a critical time for Manchester United, who are struggling with depth at left-back. Both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have been sidelined with injuries, limiting them to just 14 Premier League starts combined since the start of last season.
The young defender has drawn comparisons to Real Madrid legend Marcelo for his attacking prowess. Manolo Jiménez, the coach who gave Leon his first-team debut at Cerro Porteño, is confident in his potential.
"Manchester United have seen in him what I saw, what my teammates saw. I am honestly very happy that this signing can be completed," Jiménez told Versus.
"He’s a prototype of a full-back with many attacking qualities. With his age, he still has time to improve defensively, which is an area he needs to grow in.
"Surely in Manchester, they will give him the proper development. The day he masters decision-making, he will be a great player. Any mistakes he makes now are typical for his age and inexperience."
Leon’s arrival signals a promising step for United as they continue to build for the future, with hopes that the Paraguayan talent can develop into a key player for the club.
