Manchester United may be willing to sell seven players including one who seemed ‘untouchable’ while Erik ten Hag was at the club.
The year 2024 has been a turbulent one at Old Trafford. Beyond the FA Cup final victory against Manchester City in May, the Red Devils’ supporters have had little to celebrate.
On Monday, Rúben Amorim looked on in frustration as his side conceded two goals within the first 19 minutes in a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United.
Goals from Alexander Isak and Joelinton propelled Newcastle to fifth in the table, while United lingered in 14th place, only seven points above Ipswich Town in the relegation zone.
As 2025 approaches, Amorim, who is only 39 years old, will undoubtedly aim to rebuild his squad and turn the club’s fortunes around.
In his first interview as United head coach, Amorim called the position a “real honour” but cautioned that success would “need time.”
However, the challenges have proven more formidable than he might have anticipated. Under Amorim’s leadership, United have lost six of 11 matches, with defeats to Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, Tottenham, Bournemouth, Wolves, and Newcastle.
Despite this difficult start, Amorim has shown he is not afraid to make bold decisions.
He left Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho out of the matchday squad for the 2-1 win against Manchester City and substituted Joshua Zirkzee after just 32 minutes in Monday’s loss to Newcastle.
Amorim may face even more significant decisions in the upcoming transfer windows.
The Mail reports that as many as seven players could be shown the door. According to the publication, United “would listen to offers for Rashford” and are “keen” to offload Casemiro, while Zirkzee is being linked with a potential loan move to Juventus.
Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelöf, both out of contract at the end of the 2024/25 season, are unlikely to receive new deals.
Antony has also reportedly been “offered” a chance to exit, with Real Betis emerging as a possible destination.
The most surprising name on the potential exit list is Garnacho. He is “less of a natural fit” for Amorim’s preferred 3-4-3 system, which demands equal contributions from wing-backs in both attacking and defensive roles.
As the transfer window approaches, it remains to be seen how Manchester United will reshape their squad to reverse their fortunes under Amorim’s tenure.
