Man Utd make decision on £70m valued Alex Scott as they push for midfield signing

Manchester United have made a decision on Alex Scott as Bournemouth stand firm on their £70 million-plus valuation.

The Reds are now turning their attention to other midfield targets as they have ended their interest in Scott after deciding not to meet the Premier League club's hefty asking price.

They have been monitoring the England international throughout the summer as Michael Carrick looks to strengthen his midfield options, but they are also keeping to a strict budget put in place by INEOS.

And United are not willing to meet the £70 million valuation for the 22-year-old having priced him closer to £40 million.

Scott has emerged as one of the Premier League's brightest young midfielders after playing a key role in Bournemouth's best-ever top-flight campaign, helping the south coast club secure European football for the first time.

His performances also earned him a senior England call-up and a place in Thomas Tuchel's pre-World Cup training camp, making him one of the most sought-after midfielders in the division.

United's decision comes just days after it emerged Scott had rejected Bournemouth's latest contract offer despite the club's willingness to include a release clause in a new deal.

Although he still has two years remaining on his current contract, the midfielder's refusal to commit to fresh terms fuelled speculation over his long-term future.

With United now looking elsewhere, the battle for Scott's signature appears to have narrowed.

Chelsea remain interested after seeing an opening bid worth around £64m rejected, while Arsenal are also keeping a close eye on developments. Scott's representatives have reportedly held discussions with several clubs, with the midfielder expected to make a decision on his future over the coming weeks.

For United after already bringing in Andrey Santos and triggering Youri Tielemans' £35m release clause earlier this summer, the club will now turn their attention towards alternative midfield targets rather than entering a bidding war for Scott.

While the Bournemouth star remains one of the most highly-rated young midfielders in English football, United's hierarchy have made it clear they will not be drawn into paying what they believe is an inflated fee, even for a player with Scott's considerable potential.

Fans though will also see how several targets have already moved elsewhere like Elliott Anderson and Matheus Fernandes, as United still need to reinforce more.

Ederson who was expected to be the first signing has not joined due to complications with his medical and Aurélien Tchouaméni has decided to stay at Real Madrid.
