Manchester United are targeting Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, a player widely tipped as a future Ballon d’Or winner.
The
Red Devils have endured a challenging 2024/25 season, with a poor start leaving them languishing in 13th place in the Premier League.
United currently trail fourth-placed Chelsea by 13 points and leaders Liverpool by a staggering 23. The disappointing campaign also saw Erik ten Hag’s tenure come to an end, with 39-year-old Portuguese coach
Ruben Amorim taking the reins.
While Amorim has overseen some notable victories, United have struggled to find consistency, amplifying the need for reinforcements as they attempt to salvage their season.
United Join Race for Kvaratskhelia
As reported by L’Equipe, United are among the clubs vying for Kvaratskhelia’s signature, joining Paris Saint-Germain in pursuit of the highly sought-after 23-year-old.
Dubbed one of the most promising talents in world football, the Georgian winger has dazzled at Napoli, with many tipping him for future Ballon d’Or success.
Napoli teammate Victor Osimhen has previously praised Kvaratskhelia, saying: "Everyone loves him in the dressing room, not only for what he does on the pitch but also for what he does off the pitch.
"I believe he can win the Ballon d’Or in the next few years, and I hope he also brings many successes to Napoli."
PSG Lead the Chase
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano provided an update on Kvaratskhelia’s future, suggesting PSG currently lead the race for his signature.
Romano wrote on social media: "Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has definitely opened doors to a January exit. PSG, on it.
"Paris Saint-Germain, favorites and in direct contact with Napoli — as revealed today. Package around €80m discussed while Kvara’s camp in talks with PSG over personal terms, progressing well."
United face stiff competition, but their interest in the dynamic winger underscores their intent to strengthen the squad.
Kvaratskhelia’s ability to perform at the highest level was evident during Napoli’s 4-1 victory over Liverpool in the Champions League in 2022, where he tormented Jurgen Klopp’s defense.
Klopp praised Kvaratskhelia’s performance, saying: "He’s a good player. Really quick, and you have to defend him together in these moments.
"When he has the advantage of the first movement, then he is already gone. He has speed, he is cheeky, he goes inside, he can go outside. That makes it really difficult."
What’s Next for United?
Manchester United will look to bounce back this weekend as they kick off their FA Cup defense against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
With speculation swirling around Kvaratskhelia’s potential move, fans will be eager to see whether the Red Devils can fend off PSG and land a player who could transform their fortunes for years to come.
