Man Utd target Ederson
Manchester United have reached an agreement with Atalanta to sign Ederson - and are now set to pounce for a second midfielder.
The Brazilian will move to United for a fee of €40.5 million (£35m) plus €4.5 million (£3.9m) in potential add-ons.
Personal terms have already been agreed with Ederson, with him now needing to undergo a medical, reported Calciomercato.
A four-year contract has been offered with the option of a further 12 months.
It is a success for United who have overcome competition from Atletico Madrid, Galatasaray, and several Italian clubs.
Napoli, Juventus and Inter Milan had all made enquiries about the midfielder.
United had long been monitoring developments surrounding the Brazilian's future, as he declined to renew his contract with Atalanta, which expires in 2027.
And Atalanta decided to cash in now rather than risk losing him for free in a year.
The Red Devils enquired about the player in the summer of 2024, and since then, they have had him in their sights.
But United aren't looking to settle for the Brazilian to strengthen their midfield.
Given the departure of Casemiro, who is expected to join Messi's Inter Miami, their other midfield target is Newcastle's Sandro Tonali.
This time they face competition from Arsenal and Juventus for the Italian while Newcastle, who are reluctant to sell, have slapped a valuation of £80 million.
But United aren't deterred by the asking price and could soon make an attempt for Tonali as well.
Newcastle legend has also said that a move "might be best for both parties" if the player wants to go and the club receives a large transfer fee.
In a similar situation to Lewis Hall, who is also wanted by United, Newcastle's poor position in mid-table has strengthened the hands of the Red Devils who can offer Champions League football.
Elliot Anderson is understood to be another option at the top of United's transfer shortlist.
Both United and Manchester City are monitoring Anderson's progress before a potential summer move for the £100million-rated Nottingham Forest star.
Since joining Forest from Newcastle United in the summer of 2024, the 23-year-old has established himself as one of the best young midfielders in the Premier League.
Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also believed to be keen on signing Anderson this summer, but a two-way battle between City and United is expected to take place.
When asked if Anderson would stay at the City Ground, Forest boss Vitor Pereira admitted last weekend: "This is an answer that I don’t have.
“The market is the market, everything can happen. What I can say to you is the club wants to keep him playing for us for sure.
"The club wants to keep the players. This is a very good group with quality, with character and we are in a very good place for the next season."
