Roy Keane gives his choice for new
Manchester United manager due to his "calmness" and "experience" while he says United need someone who "can get a grip of these players".
After sacking
Ruben Amorim on Monday, United's bosses have been looking at options to replace him with the preferred choice appearing to be an interim manager until the end of the season.
Darren Fletcher, who was the U18s manager, was in charge of the side for the draw with Burnley on Wednesday and will remain at the helm for the FA Cup clash with Brighton on Sunday.
He is among the options that the club has for the interim manager's role but the favourite appears to be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who has a meeting with the club on Saturday.
And now Keane has given his view on who he would like to see as the new manager, and has gone for Eddie Howe at Newcastle.
"Who would I go with? I'd go with Eddie Howe. I like him. I like what he's done. His management, he's managed a lot of games," said Keane.
"When his teams are at it they play good football, I know it's not for everyone, he'd have his critics. I like what he's done at Newcastle, even at Bournemouth, he's managed 700, 800 games.
"He's a still a young man. I like his calmness. I think sometimes Man United maybe need a little bit of that. We've seen the previous manager going in. I like people with emotion, obviously I'm quite an emotional person. But I think it's calmness, what he's done at Newcastle, Champions League a couple of times, winning a cup. I'd be happy to see him going there."
Keane said United need someone with "personality" who can get the best out of the United players.
"You want someone to walk into your dressing room and when the players are sitting there as soon as he walks in you go 'here we go, we're going places'. Personality that's what you want, people talk about CVs and coaching and tactics and system...
"You want somebody to walk into the dressing room and get a grip of these players. I don't mean in an aggressive way, but just get that belief in the players, 'this is the way we're going, we're going to start running hard, we're going to playing entertaining football, we're going to be attacking, we're going to be hard to beat, we're going to do the hard yards, we're going to run properly'.
"We've seen teams like Arsenal, City over the last few years, the reason they're competing at the top is what they're doing out of possession."
Speaking after Arsenal's draw with Liverpool on Thursday night, Keane talked about pride and claimed United's match with Burnley was a "joke".
He continued: "We've seen Arsenal again tonight, as poor as they've been they've kept a clean sheet, a bit of pride. United last night, the standard of the game, United and Burnley, it was a joke. Absolute joke.
"Everyone after the game, well, that wasn't bad. Yeah, we done well. Yeah, we done well. Blah blah blah. Nonsense. Absolute rubbish (...) we are going around in circles, who's going to go in? Any ex-Man Utd player has got a chance."
