Marcus Rashford’s time at
Manchester United may be nearing its end, as the forward reportedly holds a strong interest in joining Barcelona — with talks between the clubs said to be quietly progressing.
According to
Football365 and talkSPORT, the 27-year-old forward is keen on a move to Spain after a frustrating season at Old Trafford, where he managed just six goals in all competitions.
With
Rúben Amorim planning a major squad overhaul, United are said to be open to selling Rashford for around £40 million.
Barcelona, however, are believed to be exploring a loan-to-buy deal, largely due to their current financial constraints. Rashford’s £350,000-a-week wages are a major sticking point, and the Spanish giants are unlikely to match that salary without compromises.
“He’s ready for a new challenge. Barcelona has always been a dream club,” a source close to Rashford reportedly told The Sun.
While Rashford has not spoken publicly about a potential departure, his body language late in the season — including frustration after being subbed in United’s Europa League final defeat — has raised eyebrows. Fans and pundits alike have questioned his form, motivation, and role in Amorim’s tactical plans.
United, under the guidance of INEOS, are now willing to listen to offers for almost all first-team players, and Rashford — despite being a product of the club’s academy — is no longer considered untouchable.
“This isn’t about loyalty anymore. United are in rebuild mode,” said former midfielder Owen Hargreaves. “If Rashford wants out, the club won’t block it.”
Barcelona see Rashford as a potential fit in their wide attacking roles, offering pace and directness that could complement young talents like Lamine Yamal and Pedri. However, any deal is expected to require careful financial structuring, possibly involving wage sharing or performance-related clauses.
If the move happens, Rashford would become the latest senior figure to exit Old Trafford in what’s shaping up to be a transformational summer for Manchester United — both in style and personnel.
