Barcelona are on the verge of sealing a loan with an option to buy for
Marcus Rashford from
Manchester United.
The broad deal, according to
Sky Sports sources, will see Rashford move to the Camp Nou for the 2025/26 season, with Barcelona covering 100% of his wages after the England international agreed to take a 30% pay cut.
This development marks a major shift for both player and club, offering Rashford a new platform after he was firmly excluded from Ruben Amorim’s plans at Old Trafford.
All that needs to still be decided is what will the transfer fee be at the end of the loan deal.
Rashford, 27, had endured a turbulent period at United, falling down the pecking order and spending the latter half of last season on loan at Aston Villa.
With United seeking to rebuild and offload high earners, and Rashford keen on a fresh start, Barcelona quickly emerged as his top preference—a feeling that was mutual inside the Catalan club.
Their new coach, Hansi Flick, views Rashford as an ideal fit on the left, especially after missing out on other targets like Nico Williams and Luis Díaz.
Barcelona’s desire for a versatile, decisive attacker with Champions League pedigree made Rashford a logical target.
The loan agreement is designed to work for both clubs: Barcelona pay Rashford’s salary in full (around €10 million net after his pay cut) and will have the option to make the transfer permanent next summer, with additional clauses activated if they choose not to buy.
For United, the move immediately clears around €18 million from their wage bill while presenting the possibility of a transfer fee in a year’s time.
Rashford’s move will become official once Barcelona free up space for his registration under La Liga financial rules and the forward completes a medical.
He could join the Blaugrana’s upcoming pre-season tour in Asia, making his debut alongside marquee arrivals such as Joan Garcia.
This deal, if finalized, will reshape Rashford’s career—offering him a shot at redemption in a new league with a club built for silverware—while enabling United to push forward with a leaner, more focused squad under Amorim’s stewardship.
