Manchester United could be set for a sensational reunion with Paul Pogba as new manager Ruben Amorim looks to bolster his squad.
The French midfielder, now 31, is reportedly open to a return to Old Trafford following the mutual termination of his Juventus contract in November 2024 due to a doping ban that was later reduced.
Pogba, a free agent since then, has expressed his eagerness to resume his career, and United are among the clubs considering a move for the former star.
Pogba’s initial stint with the Red Devils began in 2016 when he rejoined from Juventus for a then-world-record £89 million fee. His time at United was a mixed bag—highlighted by a Europa League title in 2017 but marred by inconsistent performances and a strained relationship with fans and management.
After leaving for Juventus again in 2022 on a free transfer, his second spell in Turin was plagued by injuries and off-field issues, culminating in an 18-month doping suspension that was cut to allow a return in March 2025.
Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag in November 2024, has quickly stamped his authority on United, guiding them to eighth in the Premier League by March 2025.
Known for his dynamic 3-4-3 system, the Portuguese manager sees Pogba as a potential fit for his midfield, especially with Casemiro’s future uncertain and the club needing experienced depth. Pogba’s physicality and flair could complement United’s current squad, though his £200,000-a-week wage demands and injury history pose risks.
Sources suggest Amorim has already spoken with Pogba, who is also attracting interest from Marseille, Al-Nassr, and MLS clubs.
United’s board is weighing the pros and cons, with some insiders citing Pogba’s marketability as a bonus. However, fans remain divided—some welcome his talent, while others dread a repeat of past dramas.
As Pogba trains in Miami to regain fitness, his next move hinges on United’s willingness to take a gamble. Could Amorim unlock the World Cup winner’s potential where others failed? The January transfer window may provide the answer.
