Bryan Mbeumo has told of a change of "mentality" at Manchester United since Michael Carrick has taken charge.
The former Red Devils midfielder, captain and coach enjoyed a fine start to life as head coach by masterminding last weekend’s impressive 2-0 win over Manchester City.
United deserved to win by a greater scoreline and take the confidence from that surprise success to north London, where a clash with Premier League leaders Arsenal awaits on Sunday afternoon.
Mbeumo missed the final matches of the Ruben Amorim era as he was away at the African Cup of Nations but he said on his return he noticed a different atmosphere.
"There's a difference, the mentality is different and we know we have only one aim and we have to do everything to do it," said Mbeumo.
On the change of mentality he elaborated: "I think it is a bit of everything, obviously everyone has their own character, they think differently and then he (Carrick) knows the club very well because he is a legend here as well as a player so everyone wants to do their best."
Mbeumo admitted it was tough being away and trying to find out what was happening - and then when back just having three days to prepare for the Manchester derby.
He continued: "You don't know what is happening and you are focused on something else, it is something difficult to taken on board, but since I have been back there have been a lot of changes but I try and stay focused and work as hard as I can."
Meanwhile, Carrick has said the team is in a "good place" and ready for the challenge of playing the Premier League leaders.
I’m looking forward to the game,” Carrick said. “It’s a big challenge. They’re a very good team. It’s pretty obvious to say that. They’ve got so many strong points to their game, and to their squad.
“It’s a big challenge, they are where they are for a reason and where they are in the Champions League for a reason, so we’re fully aware of that and not taking that lightly at all.
“We feel we’re in a good place and we’re looking forward to the game, so it’s where we want to be, with that real positive energy and enthusiasm, to go there and be positive, but for sure we know it’s not going to come easy.”
