Lisandro Martinez says Manchester United are "playing well" despite their crushing 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth.
Defensive frailties, especially at set-pieces, once again plagued United as Bournemouth took the lead in the first half. And Martinez pointed out the way United are struggling to score.
Dean Huijsen headed home a simple free-kick after poor marking. Amorim responded at halftime by replacing Tyrell Malacia with Leny Yoro.
He later introduced Rasmus Højlund and Alejandro Garnacho in the 53rd minute, taking off Manuel Ugarte and Joshua Zirkzee.
However, Bournemouth quickly doubled their lead when Noussair Mazraoui conceded a penalty with a clumsy challenge. Justin Kluivert confidently converted from the spot, leaving Andre Onana with no chance.
Minutes later, Antoine Semenyo added a third, effectively ending the contest and prompting thousands of disillusioned fans to exit Old Trafford early.
Amorim now faces a mammoth task to reverse United’s fortunes. The 3-0 defeat was the same as the club faced against Bournemouth last season.
Martinez addressed the disappointing result in a post-match interview with MUTV, expressing his frustration while maintaining belief in the team’s progress.
“We are very disappointed because I think we're playing so well,” he said. “We create many chances and unfortunately we couldn't score, so it's disappointing.
"We have to adjust a few things, especially at set-pieces, and we have to start the games by scoring the first goal.
“We will work on that. I think we have a great coach and a great group as well. At this club, losing is unacceptable, but we are here to change things.”
Despite the defeat, Martinez remained optimistic, emphasizing his faith in the team's potential.
“For sure we deserve more, and I see a light in this club that I think we're going to achieve that,” he continued.
“You see in the games that we are improving, and we have to believe. For sure, it's hard to accept this kind of result, but I believe a lot in the staff and in our team.
“And just as I said, we're going to change this. We have to recover, we have to prepare well for the game because we need points, and we're going to change the situation. I'm confident about it.”
