Manchester United are understood to be desperate to offload Marcus Rashford in the upcoming transfer window.
Rashford's recent revelation that he is ready to leave his boyhood club for a fresh challenge has sent shockwaves through the club and the fanbase.
There now seems to have developed a significant rift with fans unveiling a banner during the Tottenham game in midweek stating 'ta ra'.
The situation escalated after United manager Ruben Amorim excluded both Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho from the squad for Sunday’s Manchester derby.
Amorim, who is focused on enforcing discipline within the team he took over from Erik ten Hag, made the decision to send a message to his players.
United are now open to selling Rashford during the January transfer window, reportedly valuing the 27-year-old forward at £40 million.
And Barcelona, according to Football Transfers, have approached the club looking at a possible loan deal.
But Rashford’s £325,000-a-week salary, coupled with a contract running until June 2028, poses a significant obstacle.
Few clubs can afford such a financial commitment. While there is reported interest from Saudi Arabian teams, Rashford may be reluctant to take such a drastic career move at this stage.
According to The Sun, the growing unrest at United has prompted discussions about a potential loan move.
United would only consider sending Rashford to a European club, avoiding strengthening their Premier League rivals.
As well as Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked mainly because they are one of the few teams with the financial capability to sign Rashford.
"For me, personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps," Rashford stated earlier this week.
"When I leave, it’s going to be 'no hard feelings.' You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United.
"That’s me as a person. If I know that a situation is already bad, I’m not going to make it worse.
"I’ve seen how other players have left in the past, and I don’t want to be that person. When I leave, I’ll make a statement, and it will be from me."
Amorim, while trying to balance both options, criticized Rashford’s decision to speak publicly about his intentions.
“If this was me, I would probably speak with the manager,” Amorim said. “Nothing has changed; we believe in Marcus.
"Marcus is a player of Manchester United, so there’s no change.
"This kind of club needs big talent, and he’s a big talent, so he just needs to perform at the highest level, and that’s my focus. I just want to help Marcus.”
Amorim’s comments highlight his attempt to maintain a professional approach despite the ongoing turmoil.
With January fast approaching, Rashford’s future at Manchester United remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: his situation has become a major talking point both within and outside Old Trafford.
