Man Utd are set to back manager Ruben Amorim with new signings to fit in with his style of play and his favourite 3-4-3 formation.
Plenty of players have come in over recent seasons and many with high price tags but few have matched their expectation.
As is usually the case, a new manager wants his own players and that has been the problem with a conveyor belt of new coaches in recent seasons.
Plenty of players are now being put forward including former Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luis who is out of favour at Juventus.
The super agent
Also on the United radar is Sporting star Geovany Quenda and contact is believed to have been made contact with his agent Jorge Mendes. This could potentially be another player transfer facilitated by the Portuguese to Old Trafford.
The Red Devils and their strong relationship with the super agent could play a vital role in bringing in Quenda and other players. Amorim and Mendes are compatriots, and the coach is interested in several Portuguese based players under Mendes' mandate.
Challenges
There's stiff competition, however; Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on signing Quenda. But Amorim's connection with Sporting and having coached Quenda gives United an edge.
Statement of intent
Quenda impressed recently in Sporting’s 4-1 win against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side.
His signing would not only be a statement by the Red Devils, and a validation of the club’s commitment to building a team in accordance with Amorim's preferred playing style.
