Ruben Amorim have brought youngster Toby Collyer back to Manchester United from a loan deal to help the club through an absentee crisis at the start of 2026.
The manager had previously said that there is a plan in place for recruitment and that United will not splash out on players who would not have a long-term future in January.
It comes as United face a series of injuries on top of losing Amad Diallo, Noussair Mazraoui and Bryan Mbouma to the African Cup of Nations.
Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo are missing due to injury from the midfield while Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt in defence are also out.
And now United have announced they have recalled Collyer from his loan spell at Championship club West Bromwich Albion.
The 21-year-old Academy graduate joined the Baggies in August to gain valuable experience playing in the Football League. Collyer made 12 appearances for Ryan Mason’s side and registered one assist.
An injury in his last match, against Birmingham City on 26 November, has recently kept him sidelined.
He is a highly rated talent with a tremendous work ethic and now has an excellent chance to shine in the first team with the number of players out.
Collyer made his senior Reds debut in August 2024 to become the 251st Academy graduate. He went on to make 13 appearances last season.
Meanwhile with United next playing Leeds on Sunday, Amorim has also said that he will not be rushing playing back if they are not quite ready.
He said on the possibility of players returning: “I don't know. I have to check. I'm not going to risk anyone, to lose them for one month or two months. So, we'll try to arrange solutions. Again, let's see, and then we will try to win the next one with no risks for the players.”
