Man Utd player ratings: Sesko strike grabs draw after poor defending

Manchester United rescued a point with a late Benjamin Sesko strike as Michael Carrick continued his unbeaten run since taking over with a 1-1 draw at West Ham.

The Reds went into the game with the chance of going third in the league but they did not show the same cutting edge as in recent displays.

And they were unlucky to go behind after the break when Tomas Soucek opened the scoring, touching home a Jarrod Bowen cross after some poor defending by Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo.

Casemiro thought he had levelled only for VAR to disallow the goal for offside and United struggled to create chances before Benjamin Sesko produced a moment of brilliant to secure a late point.

Senne Lammens: Smart first-half save from Crysencio Summerville and couldn't do a lot with the goal, but the odd shaky moment when he was pressured with the ball at his feet. 6

Diogo Dalot: Booked for a foul on Summerville and struggled to handle the winger all night. 5

Harry Maguire: Looked to be struggling with a knock at times but stood up well defensively and won plenty of duels again. 7

Lisandro Martinez: A night when United needed more of his line-breaking passes but he did show the drive that was missing from some of his colleagues. 6

Luke Shaw: Bowen a difficult opponent but he played Shaw like a fiddle for the goal. Let a long ball bounce and then exploit the space when the full-back gambled on the next tackle. 5

Casemiro: Unlucky with the disallowed goal after a good header. One of the better performers. Read the game well and combative in his second start in four days. 7

Kobbie Mainoo: He didn't show the high tempo of recent weeks, was too often second to the ball and let Soucek slip for the goal. 5

Amad: Feels like he's been running out of steam and this game proved it. Saw plenty of the ball but didn't do enough to cause West Ham problems. 5

Bruno Fernandes: Well below his usual standards on a night when United needed some of his usual magic. Just couldn't make things happen. 6

Matheus Cunha: Dropped deep to try and get on the ball and make things happen but too often it left United without a focal point. Interchanging with Fernandes didn't work. 6

Bryan Mbeumo: Stationed out on the left for the first three-quarters of the game and the role didn't do him any favours. He was unable to do much with the ball. 6

Leny Yoro: Tenacious against Castellanos in one duel. 6

Benjamin Sesko: Should have been introduced a lot earlier and produced a brilliant finish to earn a point. 7

Joshua Zirkzee: Little time to make an impact but nearly scored before Sesko did. 6
