Manchester United are planning a raid for Ricardo Mathias, a 19-year-old Internacional striker already being dubbed the “new Lewandowski” in Brazil.
Tall, powerful, and technically gifted, Mathias has been drawing comparisons to Robert Lewandowski for his blend of physical dominance and smooth finishing ability.
Standing at 1.92 m (6′3″), he combines aerial strength with intelligent movement, and has shown the composure of a far more experienced forward.
United’s interest became clear when club scout Alexandre Torres—son of Brazilian World Cup-winning captain Carlos Alberto—was spotted at the Maracanã for Internacional’s Copa do Brasil tie against Fluminense.
Mathias came off the bench but still impressed with his hold-up play, acceleration, and knack for finding pockets of space.
The teenager’s potential has already attracted a host of European admirers, including PSV Eindhoven and another unnamed Premier League club.
Internacional are said to value him at around €65 million, though Transfermarkt’s current estimate is closer to €4 million—a gulf that could make negotiations tricky but also open the door for opportunistic bids.
His contract runs until 2028, giving his club significant leverage in any talks, reported The Sun.
While Mathias’s senior record remains modest—17 appearances and 3 goals—his ceiling is considered exceptionally high. Coaches in Brazil praise his work rate, adaptability, and natural instincts in front of goal.
His rapid rise from youth football to Brazil’s top flight has only reinforced the belief that he is destined for Europe.
For United, the move would be in keeping with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ruben Amorim’s vision of building a younger, hungrier squad.
Having already brought in Benjamin Šeško, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo this summer, the club are clearly intent on reshaping their attack for both immediate impact and long-term stability.
Whether United make an official move now or simply keep him under close observation, their early positioning in the race for Mathias could prove crucial.
Players with his rare combination of stature, skill, and maturity do not stay under the radar for long—and if he continues to develop at this pace, the “new Lewandowski” tag might not feel like an exaggeration for long.
