Manchester United are lining up a move for Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra as
Rúben Amorim looks to add energy and balance to his midfield during the January transfer window.
According to multiple reports in Spain and England,
United have identified the 22-year-old Spaniard as a key target, with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe said to be backing the move.
The club are believed to be exploring a deal in the region of £20–25 million, with Valencia open to negotiations if the player pushes for an exit.
Guerra, who has made a strong impression in La Liga this season, is viewed as one of Spain’s most promising young midfielders.
His blend of technique, physicality, and tactical intelligence has made him a standout performer in a struggling Valencia side. Comfortable operating as a box-to-box midfielder or in a deeper role, he has been praised for his ability to recover possession and transition play quickly — qualities that align closely with Amorim’s high-pressing philosophy.
A report from
El Desmarque says that Guerra has already attracted interest from several European clubs, but Manchester United are confident their project under Amorim could convince the player to move to Old Trafford.
Sources in Spain have claimed the midfielder has “verbally agreed” to join United if the clubs can settle on a fee, though Valencia remain determined to keep hold of one of their brightest academy products.
Guerra’s current deal at the Mestalla runs until 2027, giving Valencia a strong position in negotiations. However, the player’s desire to test himself in the Premier League could prove decisive if United formalise their interest in the coming weeks.
If completed, the move would mark a shift in United’s recruitment strategy — focusing on developing younger, technically gifted players rather than marquee names.
With Casemiro’s future uncertain and Amorim seeking fresh energy in midfield, Javi Guerra could be the next key addition to Manchester United’s rebuilding project under the new regime.
