Tyrell Malacia has expressed his relief at securing a loan move to PSV Eindhoven, as the Dutch giants offer him the opportunity to revive his career after a frustrating spell at
Manchester United.
The left-back missed the entire 2023/24 season due to injury and has struggled for minutes under
Ruben Amorim, managing just 99 Premier League minutes this campaign. After an initial move to Benfica collapsed, Malacia finally sealed his return to the Eredivisie, where he hopes to get regular game time and regain his best form.
Speaking to PSV's club media on Tuesday, Malacia appeared to take a cheeky swipe at his former manager.
“Finally playing good football again,” the Dutch international remarked, as he returned to his homeland three years after leaving Feyenoord for United.
Eager for a Fresh Start in the Eredivisie
Malacia is keen to establish himself as a key player in Peter Bosz’s squad, potentially forming a left-sided partnership with ex-Spurs winger Ivan Perisic. Reflecting on his injury struggles and personal growth, the 24-year-old remained positive.
“I'm happy to be here. In every tough period, there are also positives—I've become much stronger physically and mentally.”
“I have more patience, I'm more mature, I know my body better. Now, I’m ready to go and hopefully win trophies with PSV.”
PSV are top of the Eredivisie, boasting a remarkable 68 goals in 21 league matches, and are set for a Champions League play-off clash against Juventus. Should they progress, they could face Arsenal or Inter Milan in the last 16.
Malacia’s Exit Paves the Way for Patrick Dorgu
Malacia’s departure coincides with Manchester United’s £29 million signing of Patrick Dorgu from Lecce.
The 20-year-old is expected to take over the left wing-back role in Amorim’s setup, a position Malacia had experimented with in several Europa League fixtures.
United’s technical director, Jason Wilcox, spoke highly of the exciting young recruit.
“Patrick is a fantastic talent—his defensive and attacking qualities, adaptability, and work rate make him a perfect fit for Ruben Amorim’s squad.”
“At just 20 years old, he has already made an excellent start to his career, and we’re confident he will continue developing under our world-class coaching team.”
Dorgu’s arrival is part of United’s youth-driven recruitment strategy, as the club looks to build a squad for the future under Amorim.
While Malacia looks to rediscover his form in Eindhoven, United are moving forward with a new generation of talent, hoping to turn their fortunes around.
