Kobbie Mainoo has told how much he has learnt from Casemiro at Manchester United and what he says to him before each game.
The homegrown talent has signed a new contract which will keep him at United until 2031.
The Stockport-born 21-year-old has made 98 appearances for his boyhood club and scored seven goals, including in the 2024 FA Cup final win over rivals Manchester City.
He has built up a solid partnership with Casemiro in midfield and he has now revealed how much he has benefited from having the experienced Brazilian alongside him.
"Before the start of every game when we go around and shake everyone's hands when we are on the pitch, Casemiro will say 'let's have fun', enjoy football that is what it is," said Mainoo.
"We have fun, we love to win but ultimately it's about having fun, I'd be playing in my back garden if I wasn't playing here."
Earlier this season it appeared Mainoo’s future might lie away from Old Trafford as he fell out of favour under former boss Ruben Amorim and had a request to leave on loan in August rejected, but he has been rejuvenated under Michael Carrick and a new deal has been in the works for several weeks.
“Manchester United has always been my home; this special club means everything to my family,” said Mainoo.

“I have grown up seeing the impact that our club has on our city, and I relish the responsibility that comes with wearing this shirt.
“From The Cliff, to Littleton Road (academy facilities), to Carrington and ultimately Old Trafford, the journey so far has been incredible. I have the privilege of living my dream every single day, with the same relentless desire to succeed here as when I joined my first training session at the age of six.
“We can all feel the momentum building inside the club. I am determined to step up and play my role in helping Manchester United to regularly fight for major trophies in the years ahead.”
Mainoo’s previous deal had been due to expire next summer.
The midfielder started only one of United’s first 22 games this season – the Carabao Cup loss to Grimsby on penalties in August – but since Carrick came in, he has started all but one game, playing a key role as United have moved up to third and all but secured a return to the Champions League.
United’s director of football Jason Wilcox said: “Kobbie is one of the most naturally gifted young footballers in the world.
“His technical ability, dedicated professionalism and humble personality make him the perfect role model for our young players and a true credit to our outstanding academy system.
“We are delighted that Kobbie has extended his stay here and have full confidence that he will develop into one of the best players in the world, ready to play a pivotal role in a Manchester United team challenging for the biggest honours.”
