Roy Keane would shake up the
Manchester United dressing room and "set new standards" believes a former teammate.
The former midfield turned pundit has been outspoken over the appointment of
Michael Carrick as the interim manager and whether he would be a good option long term.
Keane believes that while Carrick is fine to steady the ship until the end of the season, he believes United can get a better manager with more experience.
Many United fans would like Keane to be in the frame for the job due to his forceful character and winning mentality but his confrontational approach also means that the club board are unlikely to see him as an option.
And former teammate Teddy Sheringham believes that it would be a mistake to ignore Keane saying they “could do a lot worse” than appointing
Roy Keane at the end of the season.
“I’ve seen that Roy has been putting other names forward recently, and Manchester United could do a lot worse than putting him forward for the job," said Sherringham.
“He’s obviously got experience. I don’t know whether he’s still interested in being a manager, but he’s done his apprenticeships at Ipswich and Sunderland.
“Manchester United could do a lot worse than putting
Roy Keane in there and setting some new standards.”
So far Carrick has had a massive impact with stunning wins over Manchester City and Arsenal which have put him firmly in the frame to get the job full time if he can maintain the current form.
Sheringham told
The Sun: “Champions League football would be nice. I think that’s the expectation. If Michael gets them that, then he’s got to make a real case to keep the job permanently.
“But the mood can change very quickly. So I think it should be all about small steps at the moment for Manchester United, and hopefully that makes big strides.”
