Roy Keane says that
Kobbie Mainoo needs to "sit and learn his trade" at
Manchester United rather than looking to leave.
There has been plenty of speculation surrounding the 20-year-old's future at Old Trafford as he has not started a Premier League game yet and was not given a loan move last summer.
Paul Scholes has been vocal in criticising Mainoo's lack of chances but Keane believes that he needs to work to force his way into the side.
"He's 20 years of age. What's wrong with sitting and learning your trade? And even if you're not getting a chance, again, I go back to football. We all had to do it at different levels," said Keane.
And turning to Gary Neville on The Overlap, he continued: " I'm sure Fergie at some stage doubted you, Eric Harrison (youth manager). There'll be some times where a manager's on your case. What you have to do is you have to look at a manager and go, "I'll prove you wrong."
Keane said: "It's bizarre, isn't it? He feels trapped. I saw Mainoo play for England against Ireland, when he starting doing well, against Ireland in the Nations League wasn't it?
"I watched him, England were much stronger than Ireland, this was in Dublin. And it was easy, it was 2-0 he was taken off after about 60 minutes. And I was watching a young player, see how he's doing at United making noise, I watching him closely, quality player.
"But I did look at him when he was taken off, England were cruising literally and he took about 10 minutes to walk off the pitch. I was like, get off the pitch. It was like it was a testimonial, he was just a young player making his way in the game.
"I know I might be nitpicking at stuff here, but I'm just trying to pick up traits of a footballer."
And Keane pointed out: " So if your manager's working with a player and he's showing these little traits and when I say he took about 10 minutes to walk off, I mean he took 10 minutes, a young player, just get off the pitch.
"He was applauding for about 10 minutes. I wouldn't mind if they were beating Brazil much stronger than Ireland. These are things I've picked up on: 'You've got a lot to do yet pal'."
