Man Utd are reportedly ready to cut their losses on two of their biggest signings, with both
Antony and
Casemiro facing the axe.
While new owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has promised to invest heavily in the club, the reality is that years of reckless spending have left
United with a bloated wage bill and a squad riddled with inconsistencies.
And now, according to The Telegraph, the club is looking to offload two of their most expensive signings – Brazilian duo Antony and
Casemiro.
Antony, who arrived from Ajax for a staggering £82million, has failed to live up to expectations, while Casemiro, despite his undoubted quality, is now 32 and his astronomical wages are a significant drain on the club's finances.
"If they could, they would erase those contracts," a source said. The report claims that Ratcliffe is looking to reshape the squad, prioritizing the signing of younger players with high potential and long-term contracts.
This new approach mirrors the model adopted by Chelsea, who have enjoyed significant success in recent years by identifying and nurturing young talent.
The signing of Paraguayan teenager Diego Leon, a promising left-back, is seen as a step in the right direction.
The club secured the services of the highly-rated youngster for a modest fee, demonstrating a willingness to invest in the future rather than splashing out on established stars.
However, offloading high-earning players like Antony and Casemiro will not be easy. Finding buyers willing to meet their hefty price tags will be a significant challenge.
Despite these challenges, Ratcliffe remains committed to rebuilding United into a dominant force.
He understands that difficult decisions need to be made, and he is willing to take the necessary steps to ensure the club's long-term success.
However, the initial signs of the Ratcliffe era have been mixed, with the club facing criticism for recent cost-cutting measures, including staff redundancies.
The road to recovery will be long and arduous, but with a new vision and a renewed focus on youth development, United can finally begin to rebuild and reclaim their place at the pinnacle of English football.
Meanwhile, former United defender, Gary Neville, has expressed his concerns over performances under their new head coach Ruben Amorim.
The team has had a disappointing start with continuous defeats, ending this streak with a win against Viktoria Plzen.
"He's [Amorim] finding that it's not a quick answer, he came in drunk with enthusiasm, we loved the way he brought energy, but he's sobered up pretty quickly watching these players play." Neville commented.
Neville adds, there are evident signs of a team struggling with mentality and performance levels.
United's records are being broken in negative aspects like conceding goals from set-pieces, losing big games away from home, and not winning games when playing from behind. These issues compound the club's struggles under the new management.
