Chelsea are moving closer to securing the signing of
Alejandro Garnacho after reportedly agreeing personal terms with the Manchester United winger.
The 20-year-old Argentina international is understood to have settled contract details with the London club and is keen on making the switch to Stamford Bridge.
While the player’s side of the deal appears to be in place, negotiations between the clubs remain ongoing.
Manchester United initially valued Garnacho between £50 million and £70 million, reflecting his age, potential, and current market trends.
However, some reports suggest United may now be willing to accept as little as £30 million, reported
ESPN.
The shift in stance is linked to United’s heavy summer investment, which has already exceeded £200 million following the signings of Benjamin Šeško, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo.
With the club under pressure to comply with financial regulations and balance the books, offloading fringe
players has become a priority. Garnacho, who has been training separately from the main squad after returning to Carrington, is among those considered surplus to requirements by manager Ruben Amorim.
Sources indicate Garnacho has been part of a so-called “bomb squad” of players told to find new clubs, further diminishing United’s leverage in negotiations.
Chelsea, aware of the situation, are holding firm in their valuation and exploring different payment structures. One option reportedly discussed is a season-long loan with an obligation to buy, which could help spread the financial hit.
Garnacho’s preference appears to be a move to Chelsea, where he would join a squad undergoing its own rebuild.
The Blues see him as a long-term investment who can add pace, direct dribbling, and creativity in wide areas. For the player, the chance to secure regular minutes in a youthful and attack-minded side is thought to be a major draw.
If completed, the transfer would mark a significant turning point for Garnacho, who only broke into the United first team in the 2022/23 season and quickly became a fan favourite.
For United, it would be another sign of the sweeping changes taking place under INEOS, as Amorim continues to reshape the squad ahead of the new campaign.
